I set up an equation to determine that 4 atoms one way and then 8 atoms the other way, was the best way to get distance. Then I realized that if you make vitae and mors for all but 2 of the atoms on each brick, and then use salt directly for the last 2 atoms, you can get them moving quicker and thicker. Organizing the vitae and mors within the stick lets it get the most distance out of the swings right before the end, while still ensuring everything is out on 56. You can tie 282 using 4 and 10, but that's more expensive.
