This was my first width puzzle, so I initially went with the standard wisdom that fixed arms are cheaper than pistons. But long arms can't rotate, and short arms can't access the center of the x. Because of this, my first solution had two arms for disassembly and two arms for assembly. Switching to pistons saved me 6 track hexes
